What is Oxycontin?
The Oxycontin is one of the forms of oxycodone; it comes in the pure form, the only thing which makes it recognized as the total different brand name is the quality of providing extended release. People often think that the oxycontin is the other name of oxycodone, but it isn’t so, it is the brand name that has oxycodone as an active drug. The thing which adds up the confusion between the generic name and the brand name is that many of the experts still name Oxycontin using its active drug name along with the quality of extended-release. So often this drug is named ‘oxycodone extended release’; it has the capacity of giving up to relief from the pain up to 12 hours. The phenomena of introducing oxycontin were quite simpler; to broaden the strength of the oxycodone drug. In the generic from it gives immediate release but as oxycontin, it comes up with extended-release. The Oxycontin is used to deal with the longer-lasting pain. It is usually used as a pain reliever for the cancer patients, which suffer from the pain for the longer time as it is a long-term disease. The basic function of oxycontin and oxycodone is quite the same as both are there to give relief from the moderate to severe pains. The oxycontin is based on the formulation of sustained release, it is slowly released into the body and keeps up it action for at least 12 hours. As per the general prescription by the doctors, 10mg of oxycontin is recommended every 12 hours a day.
What is Oxycodone?
Oxycodone is the pain drug that belongs to the drug class called opioids. They give the relief from the pain by binding to receptors in the brain and the spinal cord, which results in the blockage of the pain signals. In the immediate release from, the Oxycodone is available as a generic drug. The thing which differentiates it from the oxycontin is that it gives a quick relief which just lasts from four to six hours. In many of the prescriptions, oxycodone is recommended in combination with the Percocet. In some cases, the oxycodone may contain chemicals like Tylenol, whose abnormal intake can lead to nausea and vomiting. As the oxycodone is recognized as the immediate-release drug, it can deal with moderate to severe pain but that too for just a time frame of four to 6 hours. Unlike oxycontin, the oxycodone is available in three forms; as an oral tablet, oral capsule and the oral solution. In all of its three forms, it can be taken even by crushing. The oxycodone medication gives up to six-hour relief, so it needs to be taken around thrice times a day. It quickly gets dissolved in the body and is seen as one of the best opioids, which gives the immediate relief from the pain. The usage of this drug in combination with alcohol is strongly prohibited as it can even lead to the death.
